Differences between spray and liquid waterproofing agent

The liquid version is based on the same active ingredients as the waterproofing spray. Since the liquid impregnation agent does not contain any propellants, it is, firstly, significantly more economical and, secondly, more environmentally friendly, which is due not only to the absence of propellant gases but also to the simpler packaging in larger containers.

The test result in the video below, which shows Ballistol waterproofing agent in a comparison test with another product, is independent of whether spray or liquid agent is used. By the way, you can easily recreate the test and check it this way.

100 ml of liquid impregnation agent is sufficient for an area of approx. 1 m². For the same area you need 200 ml of spray. The 5 liter canister is therefore sufficient for around 50 m²

Delicate surfaces such as dyed leather or suede can be treated much better with a finely atomized spray. The liquid agent is more suitable for large tarpaulins, tents, convertible roofs, awnings and cotton. It can also be spread much more quickly over large areas using a hand sprayer, cloth, sponge or brush.

Impregnation agent application

You can find detailed instructions under using waterproofing spray. Below we will look at the differences in the application:

• Clean the respective surface as recommended by the manufacturer and then allow it to dry.
• Shake the product very thoroughly so that the active ingredient can be distributed evenly.
• Apply the waterproofing agent evenly using a suitable applicator. You can use a cloth, sponge, brush or hand sprayer.
• Give the impregnation enough time to dry. For a spray it takes about 45 minutes. With the liquid version, the drying time also depends on how much you have applied.

Repeating the process after drying may be advisable if, for example, complex preparatory and refinishing work is necessary for impregnation. In such cases, you can extend the duration of the effect again by repeating it. Awnings, sails and convertible tops are good examples of this.

The result of impregnation

Thanks to the impregnation agent, the surfaces stay clean for a long time and the service life increases. The fabric is water-repellent and protected from moisture, UV radiation and dirt. Each fiber is covered by the universal impregnation and receives an invisible, breathable impregnation. Water, dirt, coffee, tea, red wine, cola, etc. can no longer adhere and simply roll off.
