How does the color indicator work?

The color indicator shows the cleaning process by changing color during use. As soon as the cleaner turns purple, cleaning is complete and it can be rinsed off.

Is the cleaner safe for tire pressure monitoring systems (TPMS)?

Yes, the Ballistol rim cleaner is compatible with TPMS and does not attack rubber or painted surfaces.

Does the rim cleaner contain acid?

The cleaner is acid-free. With a pH value of 5.5, it is slightly acidic – the value is between milk / mineral water (pH value 6) and beer (pH value 5). A strong acid is not necessary for this cleaning task and also poses a risk to the material. With acidic cleaners, depending on the product, you only have a few seconds of exposure time. If you miss the time, there is a risk to the rims and other materials.

Is the rim cleaner alkaline?

No, alkalis are unsuitable for most deposits in this area. Thanks to the special combination of cleaning-active substances, the slightly acidic cleaner is perfectly tailored to safe and at the same time thorough rim cleaning.

How quickly does the rim cleaner work?

It works quickly and efficiently, so that you get clean and shiny rims in no time. You also don't get stressed because you have to measure the seconds, as with highly acidic cleaners. After a short time, you will see the color change. And you can then rinse at your normal working pace.

Can the cleaner also be used on stubborn dirt?

Yes, the rim cleaner is also very effective on stubborn dirt such as brake dust and old road grime. You can also use a rim brush or high-pressure cleaner to help.

Cleaning rims – this is how it's done quickly and thoroughly in just two steps

Preparation: for optimal use of the Ballistol rim cleaner, it's best to have the following utensils ready:

• Ballistol rim cleaner
• Water hose or high-pressure cleaner
• Rim brush and sponge
• Bucket of water
• Gloves

If present, first remove coarse and loose dirt.

1. Spray on rim cleaner
   Spray the gel cleaner generously onto the rims from a short distance (approx. 30 - 40 cm).
   Depending on the level of dirt, after 2 to 5 minutes the color will change to purple to indicate that the dirt has been removed. So let the cleaner take effect for that long.
   Note: With our cleaner, the rim does not need to be pre-wetted. However, with dry rims, make sure that the cleaner does not dry. If the rim is extremely wet, a cleaning agent may run off too quickly. The rim may be a little damp, however.
2. Then rinse thoroughly with a powerful jet of water or a high-pressure cleaner.
   If you want to avoid water spots after cleaning, dry the rims with a microfiber cloth. Otherwise, the rim cleaning is complete.
   If the dirt is particularly stubborn, e.g. with burnt-in brake dust, you can repeat the cleaning. In such cases, use a rim brush or a microfiber cloth to help if necessary.

Home remedies as rim cleaners

If you want to use as few cleaning agents as possible, you can also try to remove the dirt from the rims with a lot of scrubbing and water. However, if you start using other agents, you should know a little about them. Oven spray or toilet cleaner, for example, are often discussed. These are usually aggressive acids that were formulated for other applications and can cause damage. Toothpaste does not contain any cleaning agents that can remove brake dust or dried road dirt. It is more about scrubbing – and you don't need toothpaste for that. Depending on the type, toothpaste is also an abrasive. This can make high-gloss rims look duller or scratch them in places.
